Parent sues daycare claiming worker stepped on and fractured child's leg

Carrot Patch Day Care in Columbia is being sued by a parent who claims her son suffered a fractured leg when a daycare worker stepped off a chair and came in contact with the boy.

Tina Schneider, as mother and next friend of Lucas Schneider, claims the incident took place on Feb. 12, 2010.

The incident occurred as daycare worker Erin Hanson allegedly slipped or lost her balance while stepping off a chair.

According to the lawsuit filed July 26 in St. Clair County Circuit Court, Hanson was attempting to hang things from the ceiling while standing on a chair rather than using a ladder.

The suit claims the daycare and Hanson failed to remove children from the area while things were being hung.

Schneider claims the boy has suffered pain in the past and is likely to suffer pain in the future.

She is seeking in excess of $100,000 in damages.

Schneider is represented by Jon E. Rosenstengel of Belleville.
