A woman has filed suit against the driver who she claims collided with her after unsuccessfully attempting to make a left-hand turn.

Rose Price claims she was driving her 2004 Chevrolet Impala north on Illinois Route 111 near its intersection with Edwardsville Road in Wood River on June 12 when defendant Gay D. Whalen, who was driving her 2007 Pontiac Glo south on the same road, attempted to turn left into a parking lot. However, it was not safe to make the turn at the time Whalen attempted it, and she struck Price's Impala, according to the complaint filed July 27 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Because of the collision, Price sustained neck and left shoulder injuries and incurred medical costs, the suit states. In addition, she lost large sums of money, the complaint says.

Price blames Whalen for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to keep her vehicle under proper control, failed to brake to avoid hitting Price, failed to steer to avoid a collision and attempted to make a left turn when it was not safe to do so.

In her complaint, Price is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

She will be represented by Samuel A. Mormino of Mormino, Velloff, Edmonds and Snider.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 11-L-728.
