Woman sues McKendree over trip at Hett Center

Bone

A woman is suing McKendree University after allegedly tripping on a doorstop and falling on campus.

Bertha Bryan filed the lawsuit June 23 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against McKendree University and Sodexo America LLC.

Bryan says she was leaving the Hett Center on the McKendree campus in Lebanon when she tripped on an unmarked doorstop and fell on her right hip. The woman says she was seriously injured as a result of the fall.

Bryan contends the university and Sodexo America were negligent for failing to mark the doorstop. Leaving it as an unmarked access to the public sidewalk created "an unsafe, defective and dangerous condition," the complaint states.

Bryan is asking the two defendants to pay more than $50,000 in damages for medical bills, physical pain and mental anguish.

Attorney David H. Bone of Belleville is representing Bryan.
