Shiloh accident results in injuries, suit claims

A woman claims she sustained back, neck, hand, leg and body injuries after an allegedly intoxicated driver struck her vehicle.

Chin Morgan filed a complaint June 17 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against James McGuire.

In her complaint, Morgan claims she was driving west on Illinois 161 at its intersection with Illinois 158 in Shiloh on Sept. 19 when McGuire, who was driving east on Illinois 161, failed to yield the right-of-way and crashed into her vehicle.

In addition to her injuries, Morgan suffered great pain and mental anguish and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint. She also has been prevented from working at her normal job, the suit states.

Morgan blames McGuire for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to keep a proper distance between his vehicle and the traffic in front of him, failed to keep a proper lookout, drove too fast and failed to reduce his speed. McGuire also negligently failed to yield the right-of-way and drove while intoxicated, the complaint says.

In her complaint, Morgan is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Gregory L. Shevlin of Cook, Ysursa, Batholomew, Brauer and Shevlin in Belleville will be representing her.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 11-L-291.
