A man has filed suit against East St. Louis after he says he fell in a hole while walking down the sidewalk.
Otto Eggers claims he was walking down the sidewalk adjacent to property at South 14th Street between Converse and Brady Avenues in East St. Louis when he fell on June 19, 2010.
Because of his fall, Eggers sustained a great injury; suffered severe pain, discomfort, disfigurement and disability; and lost his normal life, according to the complaint filed June 16 in St. Clair County Circuit Court. In addition, he lost wages and benefits and incurred medical costs, the suit states.
East St. Louis negligently failed to repair the sidewalk, failed to inspect the sidewalk, failed to maintain the sidewalk, failed to provide adequate lighting for the sidewalk and failed to provide a proper warning, the complaint says.
In his suit, Eggers seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.
Alan G. Pirtle of Becker, Paulson, Hoerner and Thompson in Belleville will be representing him.
St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 11-L-284.
