A Collinsville man is suing the city's Chamber of Commerce after he allegedly fell off a golf cart being driven by a Chamber representative.
Jeremiah Duckworth filed the lawsuit June 27 in Madison County Circuit Court against Collinsville Chamber of Commerce.
Duckworth says in September 2009 he was walking with friends along a street where the Chamber of Commerce was setting up for the city's annual Italianfest. Duckworth says he and his friends were offered a ride on a golf cart being driven by someone connected with the Chamber.
Duckworth claims there weren't enough seats in the golf cart and was allegedly told to stand on the back. Duckworth says the driver took a turn too quickly, causing him to fall off the back of the golf cart and hit his head on the street. The man says he was in a coma for three weeks following the fall.
Duckworth accuses the Collinsville Chamber of Commerce of negligence and asks for more than $50,000 in damages for medical bills, lost wages and court fees.
Duckworth is represented by attorney Donald W. Urban of Belleville.
