Three-car accident on Route 3 is subject of suit

A Madison County woman has filed suit against the drivers who she came caused a collision with her vehicle.

Katrice A. Shuey claims she was driving south on Route 3 near its intersection with Interstate 270 in Madison County on Aug. 19 when the incident occurred. Defendants Renotta R. Hudson and Kristie L. Debrieze, who were driving in the same direction, "allowed their respective automobiles to collide with each other and the automobile occupied and operated by Plaintiff Shuey," according to the complaint filed June 17 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Because of the collision, Shuey suffered pain, discomfort and mental anguish and became disfigured and disabled, the suit states. In addition, she lost her normal life, incurred medical costs and has been restricted in her normal activities, the complaint says.

Shuey blames Hudson and Debrieze for causing the collision, saying they negligently drove in an improper and careless manner, drove too fast, disregarded traffic signs and signals, failed to maintain a proper lookout and failed to have her brakes in proper working order. In addition, Hudson and Debrieze failed to keep control of their vehicles, failed to yield the right-of-way, failed to use every precaution to avoid the collision, failed to yield the right-of-way, followed others' vehicles too closely and swerved suddenly when the movement could not safely be made, causing a multi-car collision, according to the complaint.

In her two-count complaint, Shuey is seeking a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.

Steven M. Dioneda of Kullman, Klein and Dioneda in St. Louis will be representing her.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 11-L-578.
