An Edwardsville woman has filed suit against the owners of a place with uneven, dimly lit stairs, causing the woman to sustain injuries.
Camilla Whipple-Cormack claims she was at 5170 North State Route 159 in Edwardsville and was descending a set of stairs when she sustained an injury.
Whipple-Cormack does not specify how she sustained her injury on the stairs, but does say she was prevented from attending to her usual duties because of it, lost wages and profits and incurred medical costs.
According to Whipple-Cormack's complaint filed June 23 in Madison County Circuit Court, defendants Daniel and Amy Kozlowski negligently created a dangerous condition by allowing uneven stairs, by failing to protect Whipple-Cormack from injuries and by failing to provide adequate lighting on the stairs. In addition, the Kozlowskis failed to adequately maintain the premises, failed to remedy a dangerous condition and failed to warn of the dangerous condition, the suit states.
In her complaint, Whipple-Cormack is seeking compensatory damages of more than $50,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.
She will be represented by Mark C. Scoggins, Mark B. St. Clair and Anthony P. Gilbreth of Crowder and Scoggins in Columbia.
