Calvin Johnson Care Center named in suit over bed sores

A Belleville man and his guardian are suing a nursing home after he was allegedly allowed to develop severe bed sores.

Robert McLean and and his guardian Pam Dirnberger filed a lawsuit June 10 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Eldercare Inc., doing business as Calvin Johnson Care Center.

According to the petition, McLean, a disabled man with a mental illness, was a resident of Calvin Johnson Care Center. At some point between February and March 2010, McLean allegedly developed several decubitus ulcers on his body that left him in intense pain.

McLean and Dirnberger accuse Eldercare of neglecting McLean and of violating Illinois' Nursing Home Care Act. The Belleville elderly care center is also accused of negligence for allegedly failing to properly care for McLean and failing to train staff to adequately monitor him.

McLean and Dirnberger are asking for more than $100,000 in damages for medical bills and court costs.

Attorneys Tor A. Hoerman and Eric Terry of Edwardsville are representing McClean and Dirnberger. They ask for a jury trial.

St. Clair County Circuit Court Case No. 11-L-273.
