A Madison County man is suing his landlord after allegedly falling at a College Hills home.
Jane Vincent filed the complaint June 9 in Madison County Circuit Court against Bart and Tanya Bettorf.
According to the complaint, Vincent was living in a home on Eighth Street in Cottage Hills in October 2010. The Bettorfs owned the property and rented it to Vincent.
Vincent claims he was walking out of the house and fell on a broken and cracked step. The tenant says he hurt his wrist, leg and knee.
Vincent argues the Bettorfs were negligent for failing to properly maintain the house and for allegedly failing to warn him about the dangerous steps. He is asking to for more than $50,000 in damages along with court costs.
Attorney Lanny Darr, of Alton, is representing Vincent.
