A man and his wife have filed suit against the driver who they claim rear-ended the man's vehicle as he drove in Madison County.
Jeffrey V. Davis claims he was driving on Highway 140 near its intersection with Texas Boulevard in Bethalto on April 11 when he stopped in traffic to wait for a light to change. Suddenly, defendant Rene D. Slayden, who drove behind Jeffrey Davis, slammed into the rear of his vehicle, according to the complaint filed June 7 in Madison County Circuit Court.
Because of the collision, Jeffrey V. Davis sustained numerous and severe permanent, disabling and disfiguring injuries and incurred medical costs, the suit states. In addition, he lost wages and experienced pain and suffering, the complaint says.
Judy Davis claims she lost her husband's services, companionship and consortium.
Slayden negligently drove too fast, failed to reduce her speed to avoid a collision, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to keep her vehicle under proper control and followed Davis' vehicle too closely, according to the complaint.
In their two-count complaint, the Davises are seeking a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.
They will be represented by Robert D. Larson of Alton.
Madison County Circuit Court case number: 11-L-536.
