A case management conference is set in a defamation of character suit brought against the owners of the Alton Telegraph and Telegraph reporter Linda Weller.
Madison County Circuit Judge David Hylla will preside over the conference in the suit filed by Charles Bonnell at 9:30 a.m. May 25.
The judge also rescheduled a May 6 hearing on a defense motion to dismiss the case to July.
Bonnell is seeking damages in excess of $1 million in the suit.
He alleges that Weller damaged his reputation and defamed in a 2008 article about a fire.
The plaintiff contends the article implied that he was guilty of arson.
Weller and fellow defendant Freedom Communications deny the claims.
In the alternative, the defendants have moved for summary judgment.
Bonnell is represented by Bernard Ysursa of Belleville.
The defendants are represented by Thomas Stewart of St. Louis.
The case is Madison case number 09-L-751.
