A Madison County couple is being blamed for a fire at Alton Marina.
The City of Alton filed a lawsuit against Layne and Leslee Gibson April 12 in Madison County Circuit Court.
The city claims a fire broke out in the Alton Marina in January 2009. The city of Alton alleges the fire was started because of faulty wiring on the Gibsons' boat near the shore power plug-in.
The fire allegedly caused significant damage to the rest of the marina. Alton attorneys claim the city asked the Gibsons to reimburse it for repairs made, but the defendants have allegeldy failed to pay.
The City of Alton is suing the Gibsons for negligence and asks for more than $150,000 in damages, plus court costs.
The city is represented by attorney James M. McTighe of Orland Park.
