Woman sued over marriage break-up

A Freeburg woman is being asked to pay more than $100,000 for allegedly having an affair with a married man.

Angela D. Smallwood filed a lawsuit against Tammy L. Jacobs April 5 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

According to the complaint, Smallwood has been married to her husband, Paul, since August 1988. She says in December 2008 Jacobs began an affair with Paul that has lasted for more than two years.

Smallwood claims the affair has broken up her marriage and, therefore, she has lost the income of her husband -- a total of $13,000 per month.

Smallwood is suing Jacobs for alienation of affection and asks for at least $100,000 in damages. She is represented by attorneys Scott C. Trout and Richard Coffee II, of Belleville.
