A new program that will offer mediation for homeowners in foreclosure cases is slated to begin in Madison County.
Madison County Chief Judge Ann Callis announced the program via press release Monday.
The program won approval from the Illinois State Supreme Court April 14.
Under The Madison County Residential Mortgage Foreclosure Mediation Program, homeowners and lenders will be able to sit down with a mediator and go through
foreclosure alternatives.
The program is aimed at people who want to avoid the foreclosure of their homes and have the financial means to make monthly payments, the release states.
Those homeowners interested in participating in the program must submit a mediation request and must meet certain financial pre-conditions.
The process to begin the program began last year.
It resulted from the work of Callis, Madison County Associate Judge Stephen Stobbs, Joan Spiegel, Clarissa Gaff, and Linda Jun of the Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance Foundation, Will Asa of Taliana, Buckley, & Asa, Tanja Cook of Lueders, Roberson, Konzen LLC, Joe Reames, Jack Cranley, Kim Kirn, Suzanne Vogel, and Greg Shevlin.
Stobbs will oversee the program.
Mediators will be attorneys acting pro bono.
