A woman has filed suit against the driver who she claims rear-ended the vehicle in which she was riding as a backseat passenger.
Laura Brunkhorst claims she was riding in a 2003 Ford Winstar her husband, John Brunkhurst, was driving on Illinois Route 3 near its intersection with Buckmaster Lane in Alton on April 9, 2009, when the collision occurred.
As John Brunkhurst waited for a stop light to turn green, defendant David H. Dickson, who was driving a 2005 Pontiac G6 owned by defendant Dorothea R. Pritchard, failed to stop and rear-ended the Winstar, according to the complaint filed April 3 in Madison County Circuit Court.
Because of the collision, Laura Brunkhorst sustained injuries to her head, neck, back, shoulders, arms and legs and suffered great pain and mental anguish, the suit states. In addition, she suffered disability, lost her normal life and incurred medical costs and property damages, the complaint says.
Laura Brunkhorst blames Dickson for negligently failing to keep his vehicle under proper control, for failing to keep a proper lookout, for failing to stop to avoid a collision, for failing to sound his horn and for failing to yield or stop at an intersection. In addition, Dickson negligently failed to reduce his speed to avoid a collision and failed to drive with safe brakes, according to the complaint.
In her suit, Laura Brunkhorst is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.
Tor A. Hoerman and Eric Terry of TorHoerman Law in Edwardsville will be representing her.
