A woman has filed suit against the driver who she claims struck her in the middle of an intersection.
Vickie Schuman claims she was driving a 2001 Dodge Stratus south on Wood River Avenue at its intersection with Ferguson Avenue in Wood River on May 26, 2009, at about 9:56 a.m. when the incident occurred.
At the same time, defendant Jessie Mae Lucas, who was driving a 2002 Buick Centry east on Ferguson Avenue, failed to yield the right-of-way at a stop sign and struck Schuman, according to the complaint filed April 7 in Madison County Circuit Court.
Because of the accident, Schuman experienced physical pain, suffering and disability and incurred medical costs, the suit states. In addition, she lost earnings and sustained a damaged earning capacity and property damage, the complaint says.
Schuman blames Lucas for causing the accident, saying she negligently failed to yield the right-of-way, failed to stop prior to entering the intersection, collided with Schuman's vehicle and failed to obey a stop sign.
In her complaint, Schuman is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000 but less than
$75,000.
She will be represented by William S. Beatty of Beatty and Motil in Glen Carbon.
