Woman hurt in slip and fall while hospitalized sues Alton Memorial

An elderly Madison County woman is suing an Alton hospital after she was allegedly hurt when she slipped on a wet floor in her room.

Jonell Nickless filed the lawsuit April 5 in Madison County Circuit Court against Alton Memorial Hospital.

According to the complaint, Nickless was admitted to Alton Memorial for back pain in October 2009. While staying at the facility, Nickless says she slipped on a coffee-type liquid on the floor of her room. The fall allegedly caused her to break her right leg.

Nickless accuses the hospital of negligence and medical malpractice. She asks for more than $100,000 in damages for medical bills and court costs.

Attorney John J. Hopkins of Edwardsville is representing Nickless.
