Oil and gas lease not paid to couple, suit claims

An oil and gas company has allegedly failed to pay an Illinois couple for their 1 percent interest in oil and gas leases, according to recently filed court documents.

Duane and Evelyn Hassebrock filed a lawsuit Feb. 4 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Deep Rock Energy Corporation.

The Hassebrocks claim they own a one percent carried working interest in certain oil and gas leases following a lawsuit filed about 10 years ago.

Duane Hassebrock claims he filed his first suit against the company in 2002 after Deep Rock failed to honor a joint venture agreement reached in 1999. Deep Rock refused to pay Duane Hassebrock profits as agreed upon, according to the former lawsuit. As a result, Duane Hassebrock filed suit against Deep Rock in 2002, his current suit states.

Hassebrock and Deep Rock entered into a settlement in 2004, in which Deep Rock agreed to pay a one percent carried working interest to Duane Hassebrock on certain oil and gas leases, the complaint says.

However, Deep Rock has failed to pay the one percent interest it owes the Hassebrocks, they claim.

In their complaint, the Hassebrocks allege breach of contract against Deep Rock.

Joseph A. Bartholomew of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer and Shevlin in Belleville will be representing them.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 11-L-57.
