The owners of a Madison County oil refinery are being accused of providing an unsafe work environment by a construction worker who was allegedly hurt on the job.
Kevin Fones filed a lawsuit Feb. 16 in Madison County Circuit Court against the ConocoPhillips Company. The general contractor, Bechtel Construction Company, and the safety consulting firm, Safety Partners Ltd., are also named as defendants.
Fones says he was employed by Plocher Construction in September 2010 and working for Bechtel Construction on a project at ConocoPhillips' Wood River refinery. At the time of the alleged incident, Fones says he was loading forms on a trailer when it collapsed, injuring him.
Fones accuses ConocoPhillips and Bechtel of negligence and claims Safety Partners failed to properly inspect the trailer or warn of its dangers. He is asking for more than $150,000 in damages for his injuries, lost wages and court costs.
Attorney Gregory L. Shevlin, of Belleville, is representing Fones.
