Family injured in I-55 collision

A woman says she and her daughters were injured when struck by another driver who was attempting to change lanes.

Laura M. Ellis filed a lawsuit on Jan. 19 in Madison County Circuit Court on behalf of herself and her children, Ashley, Jessica, Katie and Cody Ellis, against Keely L. Redfern.

Ellis says she and her children were traveling north on Interstate 55 by Hamel Township in Madison County June 15, 2010, when they were struck in the rear driver's side by Redfern. Ellis claims Redfern was trying to change lanes while also traveling north on I-55.

Ellis claims Redfern operated her vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, failed to reduce her speed to avoid the accident and failed to maintain control of her vehicle.

She says she and her children have suffered severe injuries and pain, lost wages and disability.

In her complaint, Ellis seeks damages between $15,000 and $50,000 on each of five counts.

Jarod P. Beasley of The Kuehn Law Firm is representing her.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-49.
