Collinsville apartment complex owner sued over steps

A Swansea man has filed suit against the owners of an apartment complex where he claims he fell through a step.

Jason Bozeman claims he was working to install cable television at an apartment at 215 S. Morrison St. in Collinsville on June 15 when the incident occurred.

"A step collapsed when the plaintiff was walking from the second floor to the first causing him to fall," the suit filed Dec. 29 in St. Clair County Circuit Court states.

Because of his fall, Bozeman incurred medical costs, lost income, experienced pain and lost his normal life, the complaint says.

Bozeman blames defendant Metro East Management for causing his fall, saying the owners of the apartment complex negligently failed to repair a faulty step when it knew the step wasn't attached, failed to warn others of the step's unsafe condition, failed to maintain the staircase and failed to periodically inspect the stairway.

In his complaint, Bozeman is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Jon E. Rosenstengel of the Law Offices of Bonifield and Rosenstengel in Belleville will be representing him.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-674.
