During a rear-end collision, a passenger suffered injuries to his back, neck and shoulders, according to a recently filed lawsuit.
Demarcus Fipps filed suit Dec. 1 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Lacey Hyman.
Fipps claims he rode in a 1998 GM vehicle Dan Caruthers drove west on South Morrison in Collinsville on April 30, 2009, when Hyman, who drove a 1998 Dodge Intrepid in the same direction rear-ended Caruthers' vehicle.
In addition to his injuries, Fipps became sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled; incurred medical costs; and suffered disability, according to the complaint. He also experienced pain and suffering and lost wages, the suit states.
Fipps blames Hyman for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to reduce her speed, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to keep her vehicle under proper control, failed to stop or swerve to avoid a collision and drove too fast.
In his complaint, Fipps seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.
David C. Nelson of Nelson and Nelson in Belleville will be representing him.
