Kay seeks to repeal recent state income tax increase

Kay

SPRINGFIELD - State Rep. Dwight Kay (R-Glen Carbon) has introduced legislation to repeal the recent 67 percent state income tax increase passed in the General Assembly on the final day of a lame duck session.

The individual income tax rose to 5 percent and the corporate tax to 7 percent. Kay's legislation, HB 175, would roll back Illinois' income tax to 3 percent and the corporate tax to 4.8 percent.

"State government must live within its means just like families do," Kay said in a statement. "The state needs to cut back instead of asking the taxpayers for more money. Families are getting by with less and expect our government to do the same.

"Unfortunately, Democrats refuse to cut spending opting instead to only raise taxes. My bill seeks to reverse that action."

Kay took office Jan. 12, after having defeated Democrat incumbent Jay Hoffman of Collinsville in November.
