A Highland man is being asked to pay more than $100,000 after allegedly rear-ending another driver in the township of Marine.
Bruce and Missie R. Richter filed a lawsuit against Philip W. Marti Jan. 14 in Madison County Circuit Court. Bruce Richter says he was seriously injured in a crash allegedly caused by Marti in January 2009.
According to the complaint, Richter was stopped at the intersection of Illinois Route 145 and East Wellen Road in Marine when Marti ran into the rear of Richter's vehicle.
Richter says the collision cause serious injuries to his neck, shoulders and spine. He says he has suffered significant pain and emotional distress and been forced to endure "prolonged and expensive" medical care."
Richter worked as a carpenter but says his injuries keep him from doing that now. Richter's wife, MIssie, is suing Marti for a loss of consortium, arguing the crash caused her to lose emotional, physical and financial support from her husband.
The Richters are asking for more than $100,000 in damages. Attorney Mark B. Moran, of Aviston, is representing the couple.
