Jumpin' Jimmy's worker claims retaliatory discharge

A Clinton County woman claims her former employer fired her in retaliation for filing a workers' compensation claim.

Cynthia Johnson filed a complaint against SNC Holdings LLC, the owners of Jumpin' Jimmy's Inc., Dec. 15 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Johnson says she was working for Jumpin' Jimmy's in Carlyle in September 2004 when she was allegedly hurt on the job. Johnson says she filed a claim for workers' compensation benefits. The claim was settled in April 2010, the same month Johnson says she was fired from the company.

Johnson contends her employment was terminated in retaliation for the workers' comp claim. She is suing for wrongful termination, a violation of the Illinois' Workers' Compensation Act.

Johnson is asking to be paid $100,000 in damages to compensate for a loss of income along with court costs. Attorney Eric Kirkpatrick of Belleville is representing her.
