A St. Clair County man is suing the owners of a grocery store for selling a woman alcohol, which allegedly led to her driving drunk and crashing into him.
Mackenzie Wilson filed the lawsuit against Schnuck Markets Inc. on Dec. 20 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.
Wilson claims Kara Janiszak bought alcohol from a Schnuck Market in Swansea on New Year's Eve 2009. After allegedly drinking the alcohol into the early morning hours of New Year's Day, Janiszak drove her car on SR 161 in St. Clair County.
Janiszak was heading east on SR 161 and Wilson says he was driving west. He says the defendant crossed the center line and crashed into him.
Wilson contends Schnuck Markets is liable for the crash under Illinois' Dramshop Act and is asking for more than $50,000 to pay for medical expenses, lost wages and court costs.
Attorney Samantha S. Unsell of Belleville is representing Wilson.
