A Missouri man claims he sustained back injuries after a driver rear-ended the vehicle in which he rode.
Demarcus Fipps filed a lawsuit Dec. 1 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Lacey Hyman.
Fipps claims he rode in a 1998 GM car Dan Caruthers drove west on South Morrison in Collinsville on April 30, 2009, when the accident occurred after Hyman, who drove a 1998 Dodge Intrepid behind Carthers, drove into the rear of the GM.
In addition to his injuries, Fipps became sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint. He also suffered disability, experienced pain and suffering and lost wages, the suit states.
Fipps blames Hyman for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to reduce her speed to avoid a collision, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to keep her vehicle under proper control, failed to stop to avoid a collision and drove too fast, the complaint says.
In his complaint, Fipps seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.
David C. Nelson of Nelson and Nelson in Belleville will be representing him.
