Defending Paula Sims

To the Editor:

What ever happened to Paula Sims? For the last 20 years she has languished in an Illinois prison called the Dwight Correctional Center.

A sentence of life in prison by Madison County Circuit Judge Andy Matoesian is a correction? What a lie. Paula Sims was sentenced for killing her daughter in 1990.

With deception and twisted logic the Illinois justice system has denied her a defense of postpartum depression. State Senator Bill Haine (state's attorney during Paula Sims's trial) and assistant prosecutor Don Weber still show a lack of compassion and understanding.

This ongoing travesty of justice continues to expose the greed of some elected officials to remain in office, term after term.

Does newly elected Governor Pat Quinn have the political courage to do the right thing and commute the sentence of Paula Sims or will he remain politically correct and covet the Governor's office, term after term, by using the cruel and useless punishment of Paula Sims and others who deserve to have their sentences commuted.

Term limits is the only way to reign in corruption in government. (other than prison).
