Plocher sued over boy's injuries in construction zone

The parents of an Edwardsville boy are suing a construction company after their son was allegedly hurt while riding his bike through a work zone.

Dannette Dorsey and Brian W. Brady, on behalf of their son, filed a lawsuit against Plocher Construction Company Inc. Nov. 12 in Madison County Circuit Court.

According to the lawsuit, the 13-year-old was riding his bike on the sidewalk of St. Louis Street in Edwardsville in March. Plocher Construction was doing work on a building in the 400-block at the same time.

Dorsey says Plocher crews laid angle irons across the sidewalk without setting up barriers or warning signs to those using the sidewalk, a direct violation of city code. She says her son crashed into the angle irons, causing him to hurt his head and face.

Dorsey and Brady are suing the construction company for negligence and for violating both city and state code relating to sidewalk obstructions. They are asking for $150,000 for their son's injuries, medical expenses and court costs.

Attorney Richard C. Witzel of St. Louis is representing the couple.

Madison County Circuit Court case no. 10-L-1154.
