Granite City tenant seeks $360k from landlord after falling up steps

A Granite City woman is suing her landlords after allegedly falling up the steps leading to her front porch.

Charlotte Wiggins filed a lawsuit against Robert Kronschnabel, Ella Kronschnabel and Shirley Cavins Nov. 5 in Madison County Circuit Court.

The alleged fall happened in December 2008 while Wiggins was walking up the steps that lead to her trailer's front porch. She contends the step had a rotten, loose board that gave way and caused her to fall and hurt herself. Wiggins also claims there wasn't a handrail for the bottom step, which is against city building codes.

Wiggins is suing her landlords for negligence for failing to maintain a safe property. She is asking for more than $360,000 for medical expenses and court costs.

Attorney Mary M. Stewart of Collinsville is representing her.
