Shelter goes after uninsured driver in Madison County suit

Shelter Insurance is suing an uninsured driver accused of driving drunk and crashing into another car in Madison County.

On behalf of James W. and Catherine S. Prediger, Shelter filed the lawsuit against Robert C. Lovatto Nov. 3 in Madison County Circuit Court.

According to the complaint, the crash happened in November 2008 on U.S. Route 40 near the intersection of Spring Valley Road. The Predigers were stopped in traffic when Lovatto allegedly rear-ended the couple's car. Lovatto is accused of speeding and being intoxicated at the time of the crash. He was also uninsured, the complaint states.

Shelter Insurance is suing Lovatto for negligence and asking to be compensated for more than $96,000 in damages, interest and court costs.

Attorneys Richard A. Mixson and Stephen J. Barber of St. Louis are representing Shelter Insurance.
