Prudential sued by woman claiming unpaid disability benefits

An Illinois woman is suing her former employer and an insurance provider, claiming they aren't paying disability benefits she is owed.

Brenda Meyer filed the lawsuit against Prudential Insurance Company of America and Penske Truck Leasing Company Oct. 19 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

According to court documents, Meyer worked for Penske Truck Leasing in 2007 and was covered under the company's long-term disability plan. Meyer says she became disabled in April 2007 and received benefits under the plan.

Meyer says those disability benefits were terminated in October 2009 even though she remains disabled under the terms of the policy issued by Prudential.

Meyer says both Penske Truck Leasing and Prudential Insurance have breached contract that provided disability benefits to employees. She is asking both defendants to pay more than $15,000 in damages.

Attorney Micheal L. McGlynn, of Belleville, is representing Meyer.

St. Clair County Circuit Court Case No. 10-L-550.
