Hearing set on status of Ste. Genevieve, Mo. accident suit set for trial Monday

With a trial scheduled in less than a week in a couple's personal injury suit, the parties in the case are set for a status hearing today in Madison County.

Plaintiffs Thomas and Betty Edwards are suing Millstadt Rendering Co. and the company's driver Gary Collier for allegedly causing an accident that left them injured in Ste. Genevieve County, Mo.

The accident occurred along an interstate highway in 2007.

A second company, Slay Transportation, intervened in the case in January, seeking to recover damages it claims the accident caused to its property.

The trial is set to begin at 9 a.m. Monday before Madison County Chief Judge Ann Callis.

The case's docket sheet shows that the parties have set a hearing related to the case's status at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 4.

The Edwardses seek damages in excess of $50,000 and other relief.

Collier and his employer had tried to have the case dismissed arguing that the plaintiffs raised claims based on Missouri law that conflict with Illinois statutes.

Eric Carlson represents the plaintiffs.

Martin Morrissey represents Collier and Millstadt Rendering.
Michael Ward represents the intervener in the case, Slay Transportation Corporation.

The case was previously assigned to Madison County Circuit Judge Daniel Stack.

The case is Madison case number 08-L-813.
