O'Fallon Wal-Mart sued over customer's parking lot injuries

A woman is suing Wal-Mart after allegedly slipping on ice in the store's parking lot in O'Fallon.

Kelley Johnson filed a lawsuit against Wal-Mart Store Inc Oct. 14 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Johnson says she was at the Wal-Mart on US Highway 50 in O'Fallon in January. As she stepped out of her vehicle onto the parking lot, Johnson says she slipped on ice and fell, seriously hurting her neck, back, buttocks and legs.

Johnson says her injuries are a direct result of Wal-Mart's carelessness and negligence for not clearing the ice or warning customers of the slick parking lot.

According to the complaint, Johnson has paid nearly $3,300 in medical bills and lost about $635 in wages. She is asking to be reimbursed for those and awarded at least $50,000 in additional damages.

Attorney Michael R. Swafford of Clatyon, Mo. is representing Johnson.
