St. Clair County doctor sued for failing to diagnose a stroke

A Fairview Heights woman is suing the doctor she says failed to realize she had suffered a stroke.

Carol Ray accuses internist Dr. Charles Ampadue of negligence in a suit filed Oct. 1 in St. Clair County Circuit Court. Also named in the suit are Southern Illinois Healthcare Foundation Inc. and three hospitals where Dr. Ampadue practices internal medicine.

According to the complaint, Ray claims Dr. Ampadue failed to recognize or perform any tests to determine she had suffered a stroke. Ray says the missed diagnosis caused her to suffer significant injuries to her neurological system, brain, neck, back, leg and foot.

Ray contends the medical facilities are liable because they allowed Dr. Ampadue to deviate from the "standard of care that is customarily or ordinarily used in internal medicine."

Ray is suing each defendant for more than $50,000 in damages for permanent injuries, pain, mental anguish and lost wages.

Attorney Gary A. Mack, of Belleville, is representing Ray.

St. Clair County Circuit Court Case No. 10-L-516.
