The family of a deceased Belleville man is suing an ambulance company for failing to provide proper medical help after he was shot in the head.

Jane M. Ponder, the daughter of Robert W. Bunn and executor of his will, filed the lawsuit against Med Star Ambulance Inc. on Oct. 4 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

According to the complaint, Bunn was at his home on West D Street in January 2009 when he was shot in the head by an alleged intruder. Med Star Ambulance was called to the house by the Belleville Police Department to take Bunn to the hospital.

Ponder claims the paramedics, David L. Corky and C. Hanna, did not properly diagnose her father's injuries and did not recognize his need for immediate medical care. Ponder says Bunn died from the gunshot wound four days later. She blames the paramedics' "willful and wanton" conduct for her father's death.

Ponder, on behalf of her father's family, is suing for wrongful death and funeral expenses. They are asking for more than $100,000 in damages, court costs and attorney's fees. They are asking for a jury trial.

Edward F. Brennan and Ryan Brennan, of Belleville, are the attorneys representing Ponder and the estate of Robert Bunn.
