A former railroad worker is suing his former employer, claiming he suffered long-term injuries because of the repetitive nature of his work.
Arthur E. Sanders filed the lawsuit against Illinois Central Railroad Company Sept. 27 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.
Sanders says he worked as a maintenance of way employee with the railroad company. During that time, he claims, the work he performed was repetitive, causing him to hurt several parts of his body and develop carpal tunnel syndrome in both wrists.
Sanders accuses Illinois Central of negligence and of violating the Federal Employers Liability Act by failing to provide a safe place to work. Sanders is asking for more than $50,000 for medical costs, lost wages and court costs.
Robert W. Schmieder of East Alton is representing Sanders.
