A woman injured in a Granite City crash is suing the driver she says ran a stop sign and hit her.
Angelicka Giles accuses Kevin Y. Spealman of negligence in the lawsuit filed Oct. 4 in Madison County Circuit Court.
The crash happened on the afternoon of July 5 at the intersection of Edwards Street and Nameoki Road in Granite City. Giles claims Spealman was driving east on Edwards, ignored the stop sign at the intersection of Nameoki and hit her vehicle broadside.
Giles contends Spealman is to blame for the crash because he was driving at an excessive speed, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to properly apply the brakes, failed to obey the stop sign or yield the right-of-way to oncoming traffic.
According to the complaint, Giles suffered extensive injuries to her head, neck, back, arms and knees in the crash. She is asking for more than $50,000 to compensate for medical expenses, disability, pain and suffering, lost wages and reduced earning potential.
Attorney John H. Hustava, of Collinsville, is representing Giles.
