Bicyclist sues over Belleville collision

A bike rider claims he suffered serious injuries when his bicycle was struck by a Belleville driver leaving his driveway.

Robert Williams filed a lawsuit on Sept. 18 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Joeseph E. Snyder.

Williams claims he was riding his bike on a public sidewalk about 25 feet west of Dewey Street near the intersection of Route 161 and Lebanon Avenue in Belleville. He says he was approaching a point where the sidewalk intersected with a private driveway when a car drove directly into his path, striking the bike and injuring Williams.

Williams says the car operator, Snyder, was negligent in driving into the bicycle when he should have been able to see it and that he failed to keep his car under control.

As a result of the collision, Williams says he sustained serious injuries.

In his complaint, Williams seeks a judgment of $50,000.

Attorney Rhonda D. Fiss is representing him.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-477.
