A Granite City homeowner is being sued by a man who says he suffered serious head injuries when steps on the property gave way, causing him to fall.
Christopher Orasco filed the complaint against Dora Orasco Sept. 27 in Madison County Circuit Court.
Christopher Orasco says he was at Dora Orasco's home on Country Place in October 2009 when he attempted to walk up rotten, broken stairs leading to the house. The man says the steps gave way, causing him to fall.
The complaint does not state what, if any, relationship exists between plaintiff and defendant.
Orasco says he fractured his temple and orbital plate – injuries that required surgery to repair. He claims he also suffered nerve and muscle damage as a result of the fall.
Christopher Orasco argues the defendant had a duty to provide reasonable and safe steps for people to access her home. He says Dora Orasco should have known the steps were rotten and repaired them.
Orasco says he has paid out more than $24,000 in medical bills and lost about $2500 of income while being treated for his injuries. He is asking for more than $25,000 in damages along with court costs.
William K. Meehan and Kelly B. Chevalier of Meehan Law Firm in University City, Mo. is representing Christopher Orasco. They demand a jury trial.
