Madison County company accused of owing more than $160k for fuel

The HWRT Oil Company LLC claims a Madison County company owes more than $160,000 for fuel.

HWRT Oil says it agreed to provide fuel to Gas City Ltd. but has not received payment, according to a lawsuit filed Sept. 15 in Madison County Circuit Court.

According to the complaint, two separate electronic funds transfers from Gas City to HWRT Oil were rejected due to insufficient funds. HWRT Oil claims it has demanded Gas City pay the $160,977 it owes for fuel but says no payment has been made.

HWRT Oil argues Gas City's failure to pay constitutes a breach of contract. Gas City is also accused of fraud for the failed bank transfers. HWRT is asking to be compensated the $160,977 owed along with $3,000 in treble damages, fees, interest and court costs.

Attorney Jill R. Rembusch of Summers Compton Wells PC in St. Louis is representing HWRT Oil Company.
