Medora couple suing Alton man for causing serious crash

A Medora couple accuses an Alton man of ignoring a stop light and causing a serious car crash.

Dorcas R. Millitello and her husband, Michael, filed a lawsuit against William J. Kibbons Sept. 13 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Millitello claims the crash happened in June 2009 as she was driving her Chevy Malibu on Alby Street in Alton. Millitello says she was driving through an intersection of Alby and East 20th Street when Kibbons broadsided her with his Chevy Beretta. Kibbons allegedly ignored a stop light and a sign that warned cross traffic did not stop.

Millitello argues Kibbons was negligent for failing to obey the sign and stop light and hiting Millitello's car. The impact allegedly propelled Millitello's Malibu into another vehicle that was stopped on the opposite side of the intersection.

Kibbons is accused of failing to exercise reasonable care for the safety of others, failing to yield the right-of-way, driving too fast and failing to maintain proper control of his vehicle.

Millitello is asking for a minimum of $50,000 to compensate for physical trauma and emotional distress she allegeldy suffered as a result of the violence impact, medical expenses, lost wages and permanent injuries.

Millitello's husband, Michael, argues the injuries to his wife caused him to lose the services of his wife along with her affection, companionship and consortium. He says the extensive care required by his wife hinders his ability to conduct usual business and personal affairs. Millitello is asking for a maximum of $50,000 from Kibbons.

Attorney Norbert J. Goetten of Jerseyville is representing the Millitellos.
