Traffic fine increase is oppressive

To the Editor:

One of the most asinine and oppressive acts by Illinois politicians is the recent uncalled for increase in traffic fines for speeding, ignoring the seat belt law (I decide my safety, not the state), unlawful use of licenses and driving with a revoked license.

With a 10 percent un-employment rate, it is outrageous to punish residents with this additional tax. $15 per ticket will go into a fund to stave off layoffs of state troopers. Let the bloated state trooper agency suffer layoffs just the same as the general population.

Two of the elected politicians most responsible for this insult and injury to the people of Illinois are; Champaign County Circuit Judge Jeffrey Ford, who recommended the increase, and the Freeport, legislator who sponsored the traffic bill, Jim Sacia (R).

They deserve to be tarred and feathered and run out of town.
