A Madison County woman says an uneven sidewalk caused her to fall and hurt herself.
Doris L. Fentress filed the complaint against East Alton Sept. 8 in Madison County Circuit Court.
Fentress says she was walking near the corner of Washington and Fifth Street when she tripped on the sidewalk and fell. She says she hurt her arm, shoulder and knees in the fall. The property where Fentress tripped is owned and maintained by East Alton.
Fentress says she tripped because the concrete sidewalk sits about three inches above the end of an asphalt ramp where pedestrians are supposed to walk. She argues the city failed to maintain the walkway, making it unsafe.
Fentress is seeking damages for pain and suffering, medical expenses and disability.
Attorneys Lance R. Mallon and Dawna M. Hale, of Wood River, are representing Fentress.
