Retention panel selected for Magistrate Judge Frazier

The United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois has announced the appointment of a merit retention panel for the purpose of examining the retention of U.S. Magistrate Judge Philip M. Frazier, whose current term expires May 7, 2011.

The panel will review and consider comments received from members of the bar and the public, as well as any other pertinent evidence as to Frazier's good character, judgment, legal ability, temperament, and commitment to equal justice under the law, according to a press release issued by the court clerk.

Comments are due by Sept. 24.

The panel will report the result of its activities to the court, specifying the opinion of the panel as to whether Frazier should be retained. The panel's report is due on or before Dec. 7.

  • Alexis Otis-Lewis (chairperson), retired associate judge, St. Clair County

  • Mark Brittingham, visiting professor of law, Southern Illinois University School of Law

  • Rosalinda Mariles, lecturer, University of Missouri St. Louis

  • Ellar Duff, associate judge, Madison County

  • Michael Toner, business agent, Local 553, Plumbers and Pipefitters Union

  • Kristen Grisius, attorney, Winston and Strawn

  • Richard J. Mark, senior vice president, AmerenUE

  • Thomas P. Crosby, attorney, Winters, Brewster, Crosby & Schafer LLC
