Child sues doctors over mother's overdose death

An unidentified minor blames two doctors for causing her mother's death due to an overdose, which occurred nearly four years ago.

The minor, named only as MJW, through her next friends, Robert and Lisa Sanders, filed a lawsuit Aug. 27 in Madison County Circuit Court against Drs. Arbha Vongsvivut and Arbha Vongs.

MJW claims her mother, Bobbie Joe Sanders, died of an overdose of controlled substances on Dec. 18, 2006.

MJW claims her mother never would have died had the defendant doctors adequately monitored her mother's use of controlled substances and had they responded to warning signs indicating that Bobbie Joe Sanders developed a substance abuse disorder.

In the two-count complaint, MJW seeks a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.

S. Russell Meyer and Amy M. Meyer of The Meyer Law Firm in Alton will be representing MJW.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-893.
