A woman has filed suit against a driver who she claims disobeyed a traffic signal and caused a collision.
Cynthia Pettibone claims she was driving a Mazda near the intersection of West Boulevard and Carlyle Avenue in Belleville on March 17 when defendant, Tyler P. Smith, who was driving a Toyota, attempted to make a left turn and collided with Pettibone's Mazda.
According to the complaint filed Aug. 16 in St. Clair County Circuit Court, Pettibone has been prevented from attending to her usual activities and suffered great pain and anguish because of the collision. In addition, she incurred medical costs and sustained substantial property damage, the suit states.
Smith negligently drove too fast, failed to keep his vehicle under proper control, failed to keep a proper lookout, approached the intersection too fast, attempted to turn left without first signaling his intention and disobeyed traffic signals, the complaint says.
In her complaint, Pettibone is seeking a judgment of more than $150,000, plus other relief the court deems just.
Melroy B. Hutnick of Belleville will be representing her.
