Beer bottles used as weapons in Neumann's Bar attack, man claims

A man has filed suit against the Madison County bar where he claims patrons attacked him with beer bottles.

Mark J. Abboreno claims he was visiting defendant Neumann's Bar on May 23 when Erik Guerrero, Zachary C. Harrison and Thomas J. Makler assaulted and battered him, using beer bottles as weapons.

According to the complaint filed Aug. 9 in Madison County Circuit Court, Neumann's Bar failed to prevent the attack and failed to maintain proper staff to keep such an attack from occurring. In addition, the bar failed to properly train staff members to stop an attack, failed to maintain adequate surveillance to prevent the attack and failed to stop the attack, the suit states.

As a result of the attack, Neumann suffered severe injuries to his face and head, including deep cuts, lacerations and bruises, the complaint says. He also claims he suffered permanent scarring to his face and head; incurred medical costs; experienced pain, mental anguish and emotional distress; and lost his enjoyment of life.

In his two-count complaint, Neumann is seeking a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.

Patrick G. King of Brown and Associates in Belleville will be representing him.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-824.
