A woman has filed suit against two doctors and St. Elizabeth's Hospital, alleging a patient died after doctors failed to recognize that his body had stopped producing cortisol.
Barbara O'Bonnon claims Sean O'Bonnon went to the emergency room at defendant St. Elizabeth's Hospital where he received the help of defendant Doctors Haresh Motwani and Ryan Robinson on Dec. 24, 2008.
However, the doctors negligently failed to diagnose that his body had ceased the production of cortisol, a condition called adrenal crisis, according to the complaint filed July 20 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.
In addition, the doctors allegedly failed to treat Sean O'Bonnon's strep throat, failed to admit him to the hospital and failed to take a proper history, the suit states.
As a result, Sean O'Bonnon died on Dec. 25, 2008, leaving his family deprived of his love, companionship, society and support, the complaint says. In addition, Barbara O'Bonnon claims she incurred medical costs.
In her eight-count complaint, Barbara O'Bonnon is seeking a judgment
of more than $600,000, plus costs.
O'Bonnon will be represented by Samantha S. Unsell of the Law Office of Thomas Q. Keefe Jr. in Belleville.
